On July 11, 2019, in Kyzylorda, a tripartite memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Executive Directorate of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in Kazakhstan (IFAS IF in Kazakhstan), and the Akimat (Local Government) of the Kyzylorda Oblast’ on the implementation of the project “Ensuring Security, conservation and development of fish stocks in the Northern Aral Sea region. Capacity Building of the Aral-Syrdarya Basin Council” within the framework of the Programme “Transboundary Water Resources Management Program in Central Asia”.
The main objective of the project is to ensure the safety, conservation and dvelopment of fish stocks in the Northern Aral Sea region, further develop and effectively put into practice the principles of Integrated Water Resources Management, increase the level of material and technical support for water management and basin structures, strengthen the potential of the Aral-Syrdarya Basin Council (including small basin councils), as well as improving environmental literacy and cooperation.
As part of the event, the leadership of the Kyzylorda Region awarded the Programme Manager, Dr. Caroline Milow, an award for her special contribution to the socio-economic development of the Kyzylorda Region, including the region’s water sector.
