The EU-funded Project on Water management and Basin organizations delivers trainings in Mary on 1 November

The EU-funded Project on Water management and Basin organizations delivers trainings in Mary on 1 NovemberASHGABAT – The technical training for water management and nature protection specialists will be held in the city of Mary on 1-7 November 2012. This training is a part of a regional project “Water Management and Basin Organisa- tions in Central Asia (WMBOCA)” funded by the European Union and implemented by programme of Deutsche Ge- sellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
Professionals and experts in the field of water management and nature protection working in Mary velayat will get training on data base, geographic information systems (GIS) and earth remote sensing (satellite images).
The training will be conducted by highly qualified specialists of the Scientific-Information Center of the Interstate Coordination Water Commission of the Central Asia (SIC ICWC).
GIS equipment will be handed over to partner organisations (Marysuwhojalyk and Water Control Agency under the Ministry of of Water Economy of Turkmenistan) for working with the data base, geographic information systems (GIS) and earth remote sensing (satellite images). GIS equipment was purchased with support of the EU in a frame of the projects “Water Management and Basin Organisations in Central Asia (WMBOCA)”.
“Using of GIS technologies will improve planning and effective allocation of water resources in Murgab river basin”, GIZ representative, Dr. Shavkat Rakhmatullayev said.
“Water Management and Basin Organisations in Central Asia (WMBOCA)” is funded by the European Union and im- plemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH acting in partnership with the Central Asian Regional Environmental Centre (CAREC). Budget of WMBOCA consists of approximately €2 million provided by the European Union and approximately €0.5 million provided by the German Federal Foreign office.
